Youngsters from different Boys’ Brigade groups from across West Leeds met at Armley Leisure Centre for the annual swimming gala.
Events started with the Freestyle, moving down the age groups. The non-swimmers race had little ones making their way across the width of the pool in many different styles, doggy paddle, breaststroke, swim a bit hopping a bit and many other “strokes”.
Breaststroke races were followed by the backstroke events again moving through the ages. The leaders race is always popular, who doesn’t want to see their leader getting wet.
The most exciting races and the ones that get parents and participants shouting loudest are the Relay races. The Junior (under 11s) race was won by the team from Farsley with Hyde Park second
The Under 14s relay was won by the team from Swinnow with Farsley just getting home before Whingate to make second place.
The Under 18s race was again won by Swinnow, with Farsley second and Whingate 3rd.
The winners of the Junior trophy were the Boys Brigade from Hyde Park, with Farsley second and Whingate in third place.
The winners of the senior event were Farsley followed by Whingate and Swinnow third.
The overall winners were the team from Farsley. Who can be seen holding the large cup, the black trophy was first awarded in 1911.
