Volunteers from the aviation and transportation industry inspire the next generation at a Farnley school.
Inspiring the Future, a UK charity programme, hosted an interactive careers event at Ryecroft Academy, raising aspirations and inspiring the next generation of aviation and transportation professionals with volunteers from the industry bringing the world of work to life.
“You can’t be what you can’t see”, so Inspiring the Future gave children the chance to meet real industry professionals from the world of transport through fun activities, engaging conversations and games. Year 5 and 6 pupils uncovered the wide-ranging possibilities awaiting them in this exciting field!
They explored the world of transportation careers with a pilot, head of air traffic services, senior legal counsel from Leeds Bradford Airport, and Department for Transport civil servants ranging from specialisms in highways to autonomous vehicles, to name just a few.
Inspiring the Future’s research shows that meeting relatable role models can make a big difference—it opens a young person’s eyes to new opportunities, boosts their confidence, and helps them aim high.
For volunteers, they can make a demonstrable difference in the lives of young people while broadening their experience and skills. If you’d like your staff to get involved and volunteer from just an hour a year, find out more at the Inspiring the Future website.
Inspiring the Future is the flagship service of the Education and Employers charity. They connect workplace volunteers with schools and colleges to broaden children and young people’s horizons, raise their aspirations and increase their motivation to learn.
