Farnley: Historic barn plans refused by council

Plans to convert a 17th century barn on the Farnley Hall Estate into a new home have been refused by Leeds City Council planners.

Applicant Karl Shaw, of Morley, wanted to convert the Grade II Listed Clock Barn into a five-bedroom home with parking off Hall Lane.

But a council planning officer’s report refused the application because the plan does not meet planning policy and there are concerns over its impact on a Listed building.

The report concludes: “…the proposed development is unacceptable through the detrimental impacts of the scheme that would diminish the architectural and historic merits of the Listed Building through loss of the internal historic plan through the introduction of internal features, inappropriate fenestration detail, in union with insufficient details of works to enable full and accurate assessment of the potential harm.”

The plans can be viewed in full here.
