Kirkstall: June’s Jubilant Bloom Session

Kirkstall in Bloom looks forward to its summer gardening sessions with events at the beginning and end of June to welcome new volunteers.

Volunteers new and old are welcome to Kirkstall In Bloom’s Jubilant June Session on Saturday, 1 June 2024 and the Joyous June Session on Saturday, 29 June 2024. Both sessions will begin at 10.30am and last for two hours, and everyone should .

Organisations like Kirkstall in Bloom need volunteers to be able to operate. These sessions and ones running in July and August will hopefully encourage volunteers to come and help Kirkstall looking blooming marvellous.

What do you need to be a volunteer with Kirkstall in Bloom at a gardening session? Well, experience is not needed. When one arrives at session, Kirkstall in Bloom will provide gloves and tools and a clear explanation of what tasks will be done during the session. If plants are to be removed or cut back, volunteers will show you what they are doing. When it comes to planting they will show you how best to plant, what needs to be done and how to make sure the plant beds well.

One of Kirkstall in Bloom’s big successes has been the mound around the base of the Latent Power sculpture outside the Leisure Centre. Here bulbs and wildflowers have been used to create a spectacular island of blooms in the very heart of Kirkstall. One of the pleasures has been to see the mound buzzing and flourishing with vibrant wildlife.
