Primary school leavers’ hoodies are traditionally worn by year 6 pupils for the last week of term before they leave to go to on to high school.
Park Spring Primary Schools’ head teacher Rachel Horan told the 2023 leaver, if they raised the funds themselves, then they could wear their hoodies as soon as they had raised sufficient funds to purchase all 60 hoodies.
The children set to work and were in their hoodies by April. Now it’s the turn of July 2024 leavers who were determined to beat the efforts of their predecessors and have their hoodies before April.
They also raised funds and with the help of a local business Life Cycles, on Stanningley Road, who generously made up the shortfall, they were able to have their hoodies in January. A small group of July 2024 leavers went along to Life Cycles to meet business owner Yassir Al-Ausi and show off their new hoodies.
The story doesn’t end there; there is much excitement as the current year 5 pupils, who leave in July 2025, are already hot of their heel, and have already started to raise funds, one pupil has made the first contribution by making items out of loom bands and selling them to her friends.
Watch this space as Park Spring Primary School year 5’s clearly have some budding entrepreneurs amongst them, and they are already hard at work to beat the April; record of the class of 2024.
