Council housing plans signed off at Hough Top

Council planning chiefs have rubber-stamped controversial proposals to build 82 council homes at the site of a former school at Hough Top in Swinnow.

WLD reported in August that members of the south and west plans panel approved the development in principle, and deferred final approval to the chief planning officer. This week council officers signed off on the scheme, subject to a raft of planning conditions.

The development includes 28 two-bedroom and 23 three-bed houses. Four four-bed houses will also be built, along with 17 one-bed and ten two-bed flats.

The plans for 82 houses and flats drew multiple objections from people living nearby, including the impact on road safety, damage to trees and wildlife and the massing and appearance of the scheme.

Leeds City Council had sought permission for the project at the former Hough Side High School site.

The plans and all documents can be viewed in full here.
