Council chiefs prepare to enter £1.6m agreement over new Swinnow council housing

Plans for 82 new local authority homes in Swinnow has moved a step closer reality, after council chiefs agreed to move ahead with the financing of the development.

WLD reported yesterday that council planning chiefs rubber-stamped controversial proposals to build 82 council homes at the site of a former school at Hough Top Court.

Today, the council published a report asking for approval to enter into a £1.64 million Brownfield Housing Fund Grant Agreement with West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) to support the delivery of the new housing.

A decision to apply for the funding is not due before 6 November 2024 by the council’s director of city development.

Details can be found here.

The plans for 82 houses and flats drew multiple objections from people living nearby, including the impact on road safety, damage to trees and wildlife and the massing and appearance of the scheme.
