Consultation launched on Stanningley McDonald’s restaurant proposal

By John Baron

Around 80 new full and part-time jobs could be created at a proposed new McDonald’s drive thru restaurant in Stanningley.

Bosses at the fast food chain want to build the 24-hour restaurant on the site which was once home to the North Sea Chinese Restaurant and the Old Roundabout Public House, off Town Street in Stanningley.

There would be 30 new parking spaces at the ‘sustainably constructed’ drive-thru, which will also include indoor and outdoor seating for customers.

Access will be off Water Street, which will be upgraded to serve the development.

An initial online consultation has been launched into the proposals, along with a public exhibition of the plans at St Thomas’ Church on Tuesday, 10 December. The consultation will help shape the full planning application, which McDonald’s hopes to submit to Leeds City Council in early 2025.

“The proposed car parking provision is sufficient to accommodate the expected level of demand. Deliveries will typically occur three times per week at pre-arranged times,” the community consultation states.

Consultation documents add: “The site is an ideal location for a new drive-thru restaurant. It is located in an existing town centre commercial area, and would complement the other businesses in Stanningley.

“We are committed to listening to the views of the local community and want to hear your feedback on our proposals before we submit a planning application to Leeds City Council.”

The deadline for submitting feedback is Sunday, 15 December 2024.

The in-person public exhibition will take place on Tuesday, 10 December, from 3-7pm at St Thomas’ Church Hall.

  1. Well it’s better than what’s there now I guess. Suspect the usual NIMBY Not In My Backyard brigade will be up in arms about it but I’m quite partial to my Chicken McNuggets and don’t have a problem with it as long as they sort the access out properly and it doesn’t increase traffic issues in Town Street
