Concerns over fly tipping near Black Carr Woods – updated

by Don Mort, local democracy reporter

A huge pile of fly tipping has appeared on a rural road on the Bradford/Leeds border.

The waste has been dumped on Ned Lane, near the entrance to Black Carr Woods, between Holme Wood and Pudsey.

The fly tipping was flagged up by Pudsey councillor Simon Seary (Cons) on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon.

He posted images of items including a mattress, tyres and spent gas cannisters at the site, and said he would be reporting the incident to Bradford Council.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service visited the site this morning to find not only was waste still there, but it appeared to have been added to since Cllr Seary’s post.

The pile is now covered by a layer of soil and garden waste, including charred wood.

A shower head is also present on the pile.

Bradford Councillor Matt Edwards (Green, Tong) says he has been ‘raising this issue with senior managers at Bradford Council for months’.

Update:, Friday, 28 November: A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “Fly-tipping is an unnecessary blight on our communities, and we are committed to tackling it wherever it occurs.

“We were made aware of this incident and have already removed part of the waste, with the remainder due to be cleared today and tomorrow.

“The waste will also be examined for evidence that could help identify those responsible.

“Our Environmental Enforcement Officers continue to investigate fly-tipping and take action whenever offenders can be identified.

“We use a range of measures to crack down on fly-tippers, including the use of cameras to deter offenders, capture vital evidence, and prevent further incidents.”
