Goole AFC 0 Farsley Celtic 3
Farsley Celtic put in a classy and dominant performance as they beat Yorkshire rivals Goole AFC 3-0 to move to the top of the Evo-Stik Division 1 North, writes Thomas Ritchie.
Farsley opened the scoring early on at the Victoria Pleasure Ground when James Walshaw headed home powerfully at the front post from Richard Marshall’s pinpoint corner.
The Celts then doubled their advantage midway through the half as Walshaw’s soft effort was fumbled by Goole ‘keeper Dan Morton into the path of Aiden Savory, who slotted home for his second goal in two games.
Farsley continued their pressure on the Goole defence as Richard Marshall saw his effort saved by Morton, before Goole created their first clearcut opportunity as Conor Glavin’s low drive was well-saved by Graeme McKibbin.
Walshaw brace
Farsley made the three points secure just before the hour mark as a delicious, pinpoint cross by Paul Walker was headed home by Walshaw who bagged his brace.
Walshaw then had numerous attempts to secure a hat-trick, however as he fired across goal Morton got a crucial fingertip to the ball to deflect it to safety.
Sam Colbear then headed wide for Goole before Walshaw missed another chance for his hat-trick, substitute Jordan Deacey stealing the ball off Rhys Meynell and squaring to Walshaw, who fired his effort onto the upright.
In the final moments of the game Alex Davidson volleyed over the bar from close range as he spurned a golden opportunity to give The Celts an even more convincing victory.
