Children’s home plan approved by council

Plans to change the use of a semi-detached home into a children’s home in Woodhall Park Crescent East, Pudsey have been approved by councillors.

The plans, by Mr S Baines, say the home will be for one child under the age of 18 who will be supported by three staff, two on a 24-hour rota and a manager working Monday to Friday.

The application was brought before the south and west plans panel at the request of Councilor Andrew Carter (Cons, Calverley & Farsley) who has argued a change of use of a semi-detached property to a children’s care home within the residential area was inappropriate.

He expressed concerns over:

  • Generation over additional traffic
  • Concerns regarding the proliferation of children’s homes within residentialproperties.
  • Safeguarding issues

The plans attracted eight objections, including representation from Councillor Andrew Carter, and six letters of support.

Members of the south and west plans panel asked for clarity regarding the number of staff on site at any one time and/or other statutory bodies and discussed concerns regarding on-street parking and number of spaces on site.

Councillors approved the planning application, subject to conditions.

The full council planning. officers’ report to the panel can be read here.

  1. This is a disgraceful waste of public money for one child.
Also among residential properties which I’m sure most of them would object.
It’s typical of Leeds City council, is this why we have one of the highest council tax in the country, besides them who have gone bankrupt.

    • Hi Susan, it’s a privately-run home – the name of the applicant is stated in the article.
The council has approved a private planning application based on local and national planning policy.

      • I don’t quite see the relevance of it been privately run, it will still be funded out of Council funds, with the applicant taking a percentage. They are running a business after all, and there is money in misery.
