Care home residents enjoy nostalgic day out at Abbey House Museum

Residents from Colton Lodges Care Home in Leeds enjoyed a memorable trip exploring the past during a fascinating visit to Abbey House Museum.

The outing gave residents the chance to step back in time as they wandered through the museum’s famous recreated Victorian streets, historic shops and traditional displays in Kirkstall.

The exhibits sparked lively conversations among residents, who shared memories of how life used to be and reflected on how times have changed.

Many residents particularly enjoyed viewing old-fashioned household items, including traditional baths, toilets and irons, which prompted a warm and engaging reminiscence session throughout the visit.

Following their exploration of the museum, residents enjoyed a relaxing pub lunch together, where they continued sharing stories from the day.

Charlotte Brown, Lead Wellbeing Coordinator at Colton Lodges, said: “It was an incredibly special trip for our residents. Giving them a chance to reminisce, share memories and enjoy a day out together makes it so meaningful for all.”

Residents also shared their enjoyment of the outing. Joan Naylor said: “It was great to remember and see the things we used to have, it brought back a lot of memories.”
