The candidates for next month’s Farnley & Wortley by-election have been revealed today – and it will see two former councillors who lost their seats back in May among those standing.
Green Party’s David Blackburn, who represented the ward for 26 years, will be bidding to reclaim the seat he lost to Labour’s Kate Haigh back in May’s council election.
Meanwhile Labour have announced former Lord Mayor Al Garthwaite as their candidate. Ms Garthwaite lost her seat in Headingley to the Green Party in May after serving on the council for eight years.

The by-election will be held on Thursday, 10 October 2024. It follows the resignation of Labour’s Mark Sewards, who stood down to concentrate on his role as the newly elected MP for Leeds South West and Morley.
