Cameras capture 162 speeding drivers along Queenswood Drive hotspot

A Kirkstall councillor has praised police action after more than 160 drivers were caught speeding along Queenswood Drive.

The stretch of road has long been identified as a speeding hotspot by concerned residents – WLD first reported on issues in 2015.

Posting on social media, Councillor Hannah Bithell (Lab, Kirkstall) reported on progress to help tackle the problems. She said: “We get a lot of complaints about speeding on Queenswood Drive and based on this have worked alongside the local policing team to run speed enforcement operations on the street.

“Often people suggest that the marked camera vehicles don’t make a difference as they are too obvious, but I can confirm that in 18 months the police have caught 162 vehicles speeding on the road and have taken action against them.

“I am delighted that the work we are doing is making some difference, and I am grateful to the Police that when residents come to us we are able to work together on solutions.

“We will continue to work on speeding at this location as I know it is an ongoing issue, but I thought residents would want an update on the impact their complaints to us have had.”
