A Calverley & Farsley councillor has raised issues with an alarming rise in the number of burglaries in his ward.
As reported this week councillors on the Outer West Community Committee voiced their concerns over a near doubling of burglaries across the Calverley and Farsley Ward since the start of the year.
Potential solutions included increasing police patrols and running burglary prevention workshops.
The issue was again raised at a Police and Crime Panel today.
The panel meets on a regular basis to carry out its statutory responsibilities and to consider the activities of the Mayor of West Yorkshire in relation to their policing and crime functions, and the impact that these activities are having on communities across West Yorkshire.
Cllr Andrew Carter (Cons) said: “It is pretty horrific that they have doubled in the space of a year, 2023 to 2024.Â
“I raised the need for better cross-border policing between Leeds and Bradford at the Police and Crime Panel meeting to day, saying that ‘criminals do not recognise geographic boundaries.’
“We need to combat and eliminate this spike in burglaries and reassure local communities.”
Residents have been urged to report burglaries, attempted burglaries and any other suspicious activity. If a crime is ongoing dial 999 immediately, but for non emergencies or if there is no immediate risk dial 101 or report on the West Yorkshire Police live chat service.
