Second Calverley cubs caught the train to Leeds for a behind the scenes tour at Leeds train station.
After arriving at Leeds the 22 cubs split into two groups. One group went on a tour under the station to see the disused subway and the river, while the others went to the staff mess room to see where train staff take their breaks and how incidents are reported.
The cubs were shocked to learn that the TV only had one channel! They had lots of questions for Andy, their host from Northern, and were delighted when he showed them his very own cub uniform from when he was a cub scout at 1st Calverley.
After the groups swapped tours they were able to look around the cab of a stabled train with all the cubs (and some leaders and parents) getting to sit in the driver’s seat.
Huge thanks for Karen Bennett from Community Rail and Andy Senior from Northern for organising the trip and the staff from Network Rail who welcomed us. It was a real privilege to get to see the parts of the station the public don’t get to see.
