An appeal to raise £15,000 to refurbish a Calverley cloubhouse has smashed its target.
As first reported by WLD last month, Calverley St Wilfrid’s Cricket Club is planning a raft of improvements to its clubhouse and wider facilities, including fixing the roof and ceiling, replacing the carpet and creating a larger seating area inside.
The changes are aimed at providing more space during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic – and to open up the clubhouse for wider use.
Club chiefs say they are ‘astonished’ by the level of community support shown since the appeal was launched. So far over 200 people have between them donated more than £17,000, leading to the club introducing a stretch target to accommodate all the extra money raised. A club spokesperson said:
“Any extra money raised will go towards further improving our facilities for cricket. This will include the purchase of new equipment for the ground and refurbishing some existing equipment. It will also allow us to invest in further training equipment for our juniors.”
