Calverley: Planning permission sought for existing gym

Retrospective plans to turn a former MOT centre into a gym have been submitted – despite the gym already operating for more than six months.

Applicant Crossfit Skyrack gym has submitted a retrospective planning application for change of use of the building it currently occupies at Ravenscliffe Works, off Ravenscliffe Road, Calverley.

In a statement submitted with the application, the applicant said:

“Unlike a ‘traditional’ gym, the Crossfit model is based around a series of one-hour classes staggered throughout the day.

Classes have a maximum limit of 12 participants; open-gym session participation is restricted to up to 12
participants. The class timetable is staggered to allow 30 minutes change over time to allow participants time to leave the site before the new class participants arrive. “

The proposals will provide 14 car parking spaces (including one disabled space) and two staff car parking spaces.

The applicant concludes:

“The site has been in operation for over 6 months and no complaints have been received by local residents in terms of noise or highways. This provides strong justification that the proposed use is acceptable in this location.”

The plans can be viewed in full – and commented upon – here.
