Lively West Leeds music venue, Brudenell Social Club, opened its doors this week to host a live recording of the popular Leeds United podcast, Don’t go to Bed Just Yet.
Normally recorded privately, the podcast took an innovative twist and was recorded with a sell-out live audience of 300 people.
Tickets were available at no charge, but the audience were surprised as the special guests were announced on the night. Leeds United legends Eddie Gray and Aidy White and Daniel Chapman, creator of Leeds United website Leedsista.com joined the team on stage.

The podcast is hosted by TV and radio sports commentator, Adam Pope, Kaiser Chiefs bass player Simon Rix and Jonathan Buchan, sports journalist and broadcaster. Its weekly podcast gives an interesting insight into all things Leeds United and is listened to by thousands of people worldwide.
Adam Pope told WLD that they chose the West Leeds venue as Simon Rix has links through being in Kaiser Chiefs. “It’s a pretty iconic venue and the owner, Nathan, is a massive Leeds United fan. What a great place to go, it was perfect. It was our number one choice when Simon mentioned it and we knew Nathan would make it happen for us.”
They didn’t promote that special guest Eddie Gray was attending so “they didn’t make too much of a big thing about it, we didn’t have too long to plug the event and were absolutely thrilled at the response from people.”
Eddie had the audience in stitches with his anecdotes from his Leeds United days and an insight into the younger Gray family of footballers.

This live audience recording has taken Don’t go to Bed Just Yet to its 150th recording, but what makes it so popular?
Adam explained that the supporters that follow the podcast have a good level of Leeds United knowledge, which was shown during the second part of the recording where guests were invited to pitch their questions to the presenters and guests on stage.
“When we launched there were a lot of other Leeds United podcasts around at the time. We pitched between the more serious Athletic and The Square Ball. We have learned that people like the familiarity of having the same people on it. With Simon, it’s nice bringing the music side of things into it. The three of us get on well, I am glad it translates to other people too.”
The podcast can be found on BBC Sounds and other podcast providers and is usually released every Monday.
