Leeds City Council has given the green light to an £81,773 scheme to level and improve drainage at a pitch used by Burley Rugby Union Football Club.
The pitch levelling and drainage project at the pitch off Abbey Road, near Kirkstall Abbey, is focused on reducing the undulations and improving the overall quality of the full-sized rugby pitch.
The scheme will be paid for by £48,764 external funding from Sport England, £26,000 from the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and £7,009 from Burley RUFC.
The club also requires a lease for a minimum of 25 years to satisfy Sport England requirements and for the grant to be awarded. The pitch will still remain as public open space.
