Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man’s body in Burley Park on Saturday.
The body was found by a member of the public in the park, off Cardigan Lane, shortly before 7am. He has been identified as 57-year-old Polish national Waldek Mural who is understood to have lived in Leeds for at least the last five years and known to frequent the Armley and Burley areas.
A post mortem examination was carried out which established that Mr Mural died as a result of multiple injuries to the body. His next of kin in Poland has been made aware of his death.
Two men – aged 30 and 32 – were arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Walker, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said:
“As part of our ongoing enquiries in to Mr Mural’s death, we are keen to speak to anyone who saw him between Friday evening and Saturday morning. The last confirmed sighting we have of him is in the Armley area at around 6.30pm on Friday and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw him around this time or after.
“We would also like to hear from anyone with information about Mr Mural’s lifestyle or with any other information which could help our investigation in the circumstances behind his death.”
Anyone with information which could help the investigation is asked to call the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101 or pass information anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
