Burley: Late-night music plan met with concern

Concerns over noise nuisance could scupper an application to play live music, plays, films and indoor sporting events at a venue in Burley

Reds True Barbecue Limited have applied to Leeds City Council for The Shed, in Weaver Street, Burley, which is described as a multi-function event space and brewery visitor centre.

They’re applying to run activities from 10am until 6am the following morning, seven days a week.

But Leeds City Council environment protection officers say there would be a noise disturbance for nearby residents. In a letter objecting to the proposal, they say:

“The building is not fit for purpose as the music would reverberate and vibrate through the metal and escape.

“Venues of this applicant’s nature usually have low frequency and so could travel far in the middle of the night and throughout the nighttime hours.

“This could cause significant adverse effects and a nuisance.”

Members of the council’s licensing sub-committee will decide the application at a meeting in Leeds Civic Hall tomorrow (Tuesday, 4 January).
