Bramley and Stanningley’s councillors have secured funding for goal posts on Broad Lane, which have already been put to good use by a local walking football team.
Funding for goal posts, football nets and footballs came from the Inner West Community Committee and the local councillors’ MICE money.
Bramley Walking Wanderers play short matches using the pitch and goal posts on Broad Lane, following funding provided by the local Councillors.
Walking football is an important activity for the elderly, those with disabilities or anyone that wants to play a slower version of football but keep fit.
Councillor Tom Hinchcliffe (Labour, Bramley and Stanningley) said: “I was delighted to get my boots on and join the Bramley Walking Wanderers. It was great to play alongside local residents, many of whom are elderly and enjoy this vital piece of exercise which helps to keep them healthy.
Councillor Adele Rae (Labour, Bramley and Stanningley) said: “I was pleased to support the tree planting on Broad Lane, with help from local primary school children.
“The trees have helped to prevent the football from being kicked into the road and allows the team to keep fit and healthy, while enjoying a few games of football.”
Councillor Kevin Ritchie (Labour, Bramley and Stanningley) said: “I’m grateful to Tony from My Back Yard and the Walking Wanderers for inviting us to play alongside them.
“These goal posts and the football pitch lining are fantastic additions to the green space in the heart of our community and I hope they will be enjoyed by Bramley residents.”
Bramley Walking Wanderers play on the pitch on Broad Lane, opposite Wellington Terrace, every Friday from 10am. Everyone is welcome to join in, no matter what age or ability
