Boxers at Bramley Villagers Club are looking forward to demonstrating skills learnt at the third and final home show of the year this coming Saturday with up to 16 bouts planned and many visiting boxers travelling some way to compete.
Several of the younger boxers will compete in what are ‘skills bouts’ in which the competitors show how they’ve improved in their boxing without the pressure of a decision.
In particular three young boxers are looking forward to fights which should enable them to get better known on the local scene with opportunities for them to box more frequently on shows across the region.
Noah Myers, 14, said: “I’ve had a few skills bouts but I’m excited now to be in the ring and show that I can win a bout against an opponent who will likely have trained as hard as me.
“Hopefully my family and teammates will be proud that I can achieve, and I can show just what I’m made of as a boxer. I’d love to be a professional boxer in years to come. This is just the start.”
Sixteen-year-old Haaris Akbar has now won four bouts including his most recent on a show in Fleetwood in September. “My parents were keen for me to do a sport that as they said would get me out of my shell and they’re now saying boxing’s done wonders for me. I love the competition, but I also enjoy the company of the lads I train with as we all work together to improve.”
College student Mark Judge, 17, is keen to be in the ring after a year’s absence. “I was at Villagers years ago and I’m now back and determined to do well in the sport see where it takes me.
“I’m grateful to ‘Titch’ and Danny for the opportunity and like my teammates I’m keen to show how well we’ve been coached and make a success of my involvement in boxing.”
Some tickets are still available for the show and can be purchased from DeeJay Titch on Facebook or the boxers directly again via Facebook.
