Boxers training at Bramley Villagers Boxing Club travelled to Fleetwood in Lancashire last Saturday to compete on the JFT Promotions home show.
Accompanied by coaches, parents and friends the Leeds group were delighted to get three wins, including a stunning victory by Kalem Pickles over one of JFT’s top prospects, Archie Mullen.
“Archie beat me on our home show in March so to put it bluntly I was glad to get my own back,” said Pickles, an electrician who recently turned 19.
“Saturday’s match was scored a draw at the end of three rounds so we agreed to a fourth round which I won, giving me the overall win. I now need to train hard for the rematch at our home show on 9 November.
“Archie will be coming to Bramley in November looking to repeat his success from last March and although we enjoy a laugh together, I intend to stop him and win the trilogy of fights.
“It’ll all be helping me reach my ambition of becoming a professional boxer. The best ambition in the best of sports.”
Young Bramley boxers Haaris Akbar, 16, and Robbie Wood, 17, turned in strong performances to beat their JFT opponents on points.
Noah Myers enjoyed what he hopes will be his last skills demonstration bout before he boxes for a win/lose decision on the afternoon home show on 9 November.
“I can’t wait to box to get a win and prove just how very tough I can be,” said Noah, 14. “Older boxers like Kalem are an inspiration really and younger boxers like me look up to him as a role model. Which I also plan to be in the future.”
Tickets for the home show are available from the boxers via their social media page or by contacting Bramley Villagers Boxing & Fitness Club 2024 on Facebook or bramleyvillagersboxing_fitness on Instagram.
