Plans to introduce parking restrictions in the Bramley & Stanningley Ward will go ahead, despite objections from residents.
Council officials have decided to implement these safety improvement measures, including new double yellow lines and permit zones across 17 sites, overruling the initial four objections presented to the plan in late 2023.
During the time of the advertisement last year a change to the council’s legal processing system resulted in further objections not being correctly identified.
Since the decision was published, additional concerns have been outlined, including a petition signed by 17 residents regarding reduced parking availability in the area.
“I have a disability and need to park near my house,” one resident said in a council report published this week. The council responded, noting that blue badge holders can park on double yellow lines for up to three hours and can apply for dedicated accessible parking spaces outside their homes.
Other objections included concerns about displaced vehicles on already crowded streets and a lack of compliance and enforcement of traffic regulation orders.
Though some residents are worried about the impact on their day-to-day lives, council officers have defended the proposals as part of their Vision Zero goal, which aims to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the city’s roads.
They noted that the restrictions will restore sightlines at junctions, improving visibility for pedestrians, particularly children, older people, and wheelchair users.
The scheme proposes to introduce a package of works within the Bramley & Stanningley Ward to improve access and the safe passage of traffic in the area, including restrictions on:
