Bramley college student Max Day has won the 80kg Yorkshire amateur boxing championship belt – wresting it from the previous holder from Wakefield’s White Rose Boxing Club in a thrilling encounter.
The bout was held on a Harehills show staged by Burmantofts Boxing Club.
“I’ve been around boxing for a while,” said Max, 17. “This was my second amateur win.
“Since it opened in 2022, I’ve been training at The Ministry of Boxing on Moorfield Road in Armley. I attend four sessions a week and arrange my own roadwork, which includes my running and sprint work. Boxing keeps me disciplined and offers a future career path into the professional ranks. That’s where I’d like to be, accomplishing everything I can.”
Phil Wisher and his son Josh both train Max. Phil said: “Max always gives his best efforts in training and lately has been working on improving his defensiveness and generally polishing up hos boxing technique. This has paid dividends in his belt winning performance.”
Max appreciates the generosity of his current sponsor L-TEK Ltd. Other sponsors can contact Max by e-mail maxday321@gmail.com or by calling Josh Wisher on 07717 202784, who will also provide information about training at The Ministry of Boxing.
