Borrow SID and tackle speeding in your community

Are you part of a community group and concerned about speeding on West Leeds roads?

Local residents can borrow a free Speed Indicator Device (SID) to monitor and raise awareness of traffic speeds in your area.

It’s easy to set up and use, displaying drivers’ speeds with a smiley face when they stay within the limit, or a slow down message if they’re speeding. While it’s not used for enforcement, SID helps encourage safer driving and improve road safety.

If your community group would like to borrow SID, or you want more information, contact police at road.safety@leeds.gov.uk or visit this website.

  1. These useful tools used to be operated by PCSOs. Appropriate drivers received written cautions. If WYP gives members of the public the necessary powers of caution and/or arrest and seizure they can then abdicate this responsibility.
