Rachel Reeves MP for Leeds West and Pudsey was thrilled to meet the children behind the top three entries to her annual Christmas Card competition on Friday, 6 December.

The competition was open to all primary schools across Leeds West and Pudsey.

The winner of the 2024 competition was Charlotte from Year 4 at Christ the King Primary School whose design will serve as the official Christmas card for Rachel Reeves this year.

Ms Reeves congratulated Charlotte on her thoughtful recreation of the nativity scene which appears on the front of this year’s card.

The runners up, Penny from Year 4 at Pudsey Lowtown Primary School and Ellen from Year 6 at Whitecote Primary School, were also congratulated on Friday as the Chancellor popped into all three schools.

All three students were gifted additional cards to send to friends and family to show off their beautiful designs and share in the celebration, as well as a signed certificate and voucher in recognition of this achievement.

Rachel Reeves MP said entries ran into the hundreds.  “I am always so impressed by the wonderful Christmas card designs that children across the constituency send in each year,” she added.

“Thank you to all the children and staff for taking the time to send in so many fantastic entries.”

The headteacher of Christ the King Primary School, Anne Marie Waide, said: “We are so proud of Charlotte for winning the Christmas Card competition. Charlotte is a creative artist and deserves this recognition. Well done, Charlotte!”

“There was also a lovely opportunity for Rachel to present a certificate to Year 4 pupil Penny who was one of the winners in the recent Christmas card competition. We would like to thank Rachel for her time today.”

Ellen from Whitecote was a runner up.

Frances Stead, headteacher at Whitecote, said: “We always look forward to participating in Rachel’s annual Christmas card competition and are delighted that one of our pupils is a runner-up.

“Meeting the Chancellor was an unforgettable experience for our children; they were able to share with her democracy in action within school, ask some questions and gained so much from the visit.”
