Abbey Lodge and Hollybush Children’s Centre sold at auction

By John Baron

Council bosses have raised £881,000 following the sale of three pieces of land/buildings in West Leeds.

According to the Pugh Auctions website, the council’s sale of Abbey Lodge and depot on Morris Lane, Kirkstall raised £475,000.

The Lodge is a residential property, off Morris Lane, which has been vacant for several years. Outbuildings have been used more recently by Parks and Countryside staff.

The former Hollybush Children’s Centre in Broad Lane, Bramley, was also sold for £346,000. It was one of six unused centres de-registered by Leeds City Council as part of a review of early years provision last year.

Land at Cragside Walk in Hawksworth Wood, which was earmarked for residential use, was sold for £60,000. More details of the auction can be found here.

The council says the building sales will raise money following underfunding from central government since 2010 and the rising costs of some services, such as adult social care.

WLD reported last week that the council had chosen a preferred bidder for the sale of Pudsey Town Hall.

Elsewhere in Leeds, Otley Cemetery Lodge, in Pool Road, was sold for £225,000 and an acre of land at the junction of Holtdale Approach and Otley Old Road in Tinshill went for £585,000. The auction of Gipton South Children’s Centre building was postponed.
