Abbey House Museum hosted a Christmas meal for older members of the Kirkstall community.
The Christmas lunch was a great success and consisted of a visit from Santa as well as a visit from stars of Emmerdale. The afternoon was filled with Christmas activities such as a raffle, prize bingo and songs from the local choir.
There was also a speech from Age UK who spoke about winter health, a really important issue as the cold weather continues to draw in.
Staff from the Abbey House Museum, alongside Mark and Lesley Kilvington, set up the Kirkstall Community Team to organise more local events such as this one to help bring community organisations together. Next week the team have organised a special Christmas event for looked after children which promises to be just as fun.
Councillor Lucinda Yeadon (Labour, Kirkstall) said:
“I am really pleased to have been involved in organising this event for the people of Kirkstall. It was a fantastic afternoon and the team at Abbey House Museum did us proud. I would like to thank the team for all of the hard work they do throughout the year and I would also like to thank all of the local businesses that made donations for this event.”
