Horsforth residents brought light, colour and music to Hall Park as the town’s first Lantern Parade drew the crowds yesterday evening (Saturday, 28 February).
Music was provided by the Pop n Rock Choir. The Huddersfield Samba band then launched into an entertaining set as they paraded around the park, followed by hundreds of people with lanterns.
Guided by the Horsforth Sprite – who many will have seen at the town’s Christmas light switch on in December – visitors followed a trail of lanterns, which had been created at community workshops. They were accompanied by poetry, music and story telling.
Here’s a slideshow of photos, taken by Kelvin Wakefield:
The event was organised by a new collective, bringing their creative talents together to produce a real community event.
The brand-new creative group from Horsforth includes collaboration with Marc Parrett from Grandly Strange Puppet Theatre, Marianne Helliwell from Form in Fabric, Horsforth Climate Action, LS18 Rocks, Walk of Art, Neil Edwards and his daughter Oonagh, Friends of Horsforth Hall Park and many more local volunteers.
They brought creativity, music and art to the park, and celebrating light in the darkness.
