£1.3m grant could support Armley council housing development

Delayed plans for a new west Leeds housing complex for older people are set to move a step closer to reality.

Leeds City Council is set to enter into a £1.3 million grant agreement with West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) grant to support the delivery of new-build council sousing at Middlecross, Armley.

A council report says a decision on entering the agreement is due before the end of November.

The funding will allow the development to move forward.

Leeds City Council, which is behind the proposals, says the development at the former Middlecross Care Home would be an example of an “extra care” site, where people live independently but help and support for their particular needs is available.

A total of 65 one and two-bed apartments would be included in the complex, along with a number of communal areas to allow residents to socialise.

A construction contract to deliver the scheme on site is still to be issued.

The site has been empty since Middlecross Day Centre was demolished in 2018.
