Original Post: People living in West Leeds can help shape ideas for projects improving the lives and the environment of the Kirkstall Valley at an event this week.
The third Kirkstall Valley Grants awards event is being held at Open Source Arts on Wednesday, and will showcase the 11 projects already taking place in Armley, Bramley, Kirkstall.
These include building hedgehog homes workshops, creating edible beds, and planting fruit trees with neighbours.
A grants spokesperson said:
“These projects have really shown the fantastic things that are made possible when a community gets together to collaborate for the climate with a little financial help.
“We would love you to help support and shape the ideas for the next projects. You are invited to join a table and find out more about the project ideas – you might offer yourself as a mentor, know someone else who would be interested in helping, have ideas about where to look for practical help, or be able to offer words of support to people who might never have done anything like this before!”
Awardees of the previous round will also be present to explain how their project went, and share tips and skills.
New micro-grants will also be awarded to four new projects.
The event is free to attend, with free food provided at Open Source Arts on Wednesday 12th February at 6.30pm.
Both Kirkstall Valley Development Trust (KVDT) and Open Source Arts (OSA) are the two organisations behind the grants scheme. They are giving out grants of £250 to support forward-thinking solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the Aire Valley which, in turn, support community and sustainability.
