Two activity groups targeting the Eastern European community in Armley are being launched this week.

Free English conversation classes delivered by a Romanian and Polish speaker and an Eastern European women’s group will be offering specialist support.

Adriana Panait, Roma community engagement worker with Touchstone Community Development Service, said:

“The conversation class is a way of encouraging people to start learning/practising English and break the ice so they would feel comfortable to communicate more in English or make the next steps and join an accredited ESOL class.

“The Women’s Group will focus on isolation, building confidence and also starting to get knowledge about rights and services available in Leeds.

“We’ll have conversation around wellbeing, mental health, domestic violence, but also every other week we’ll try to invite a representative of a local service or charity, that will share important information on the services available.”

The free English conversation classes are held every Wednesday at Armley One Stop Centre 5.30pm-7pm.

The women’s group runs every Thursday from 1pm to 3pm at the Children’s Centre on Chapel Lane.

Call 0113 2484880 or e-mail adrianap@touchstonesupport.org.uk to join either group.
