Developers have returned with fresh plans to turn the site of a ‘dangerous and derelict’ Wortley property into new homes – less than two months after they withdrew initial proposals due to council concerns.

MJT Developments Ltd had originally wanted to demolish Prospect House, off Fawcett Lane – and build eight family homes on the site.

New plans show Prospect House – which developers say was a former care home – would be converted to seven one and two bedroom apartments, with four family homes built next to it.

Leeds City Council planners had been lukewarm to the original plans to demolish Prospect House, saying the proposals for demolition of an important building had not been adequately justified. They also said the design for the new properties was ‘unsympathetic’.

Local residents expressed frustration with the council’s stance, labelling Prospect House a ‘derelict slum‘ and unsafe for local children.

In their new planning application, MJT Developments Ltd conclude:

“Detailed and careful consideration has been given to the proposals. The proposals create a development that not only respects the site and its surroundings but also provides a high quality and well considered place to live.”

The planning application can be viewed in full – and commented upon – here.
