West Leeds RUFC are heading to Rugby Union HQ for the second consecutive season – and this year the Senior Vase Final will be shown live online and smart TV on ERTV, writes Glenn Broadbent.

The community rugby union side beat highly rated Peterborough side Oundle RFC away from home 23-31 to book their place in the final of the RFU National Senior Vase Competition.

Withycombe from Devon will be their opponents at Twickenham on May 7.

The Wortley-based side, who fielded 15 homegrown players in their semi-final squad, beat Barnard Castle, Rockcliffe Whitley Bay, Littleborough and Oundle on the way to the final.

They will hope to improve on last year’s defeat and bring the trophy back to Yorkshire.

Chairman of rugby Phil Christopher said:

“We are fully aware we carry the hopes of not just our supporters but those of Yorkshire rugby into the final, not only that we now have a global audience.”

First Team Coach Andy Neave added:

“These lads have been with this club through thick and thin and their determination and camaraderie this season has been outstanding, they really want to bring trophy back to West Leeds.”

West Leeds have already been promoted to Yorkshire Division 1 and are just one point away from clinching the Yorkshire Division 2 title. They are also in the quarter final of the Yorkshire Shield.

The game will be shown live on ERTV, with both online and smart TV coverage starting at 11am (kick off 1pm).

Travel information for the final can be found at the club’s Facebook page.
