Old Boys of West Leeds High School have responded to calls from local group All Together Armley to help a community sports project.

President of the Old Boy’s Society, Steve Parker, said:

“We heard about this ahead of our annual dinner on Friday and were determined to do something to help All Together Armley’s appeal and our replacement school.

“We were privileged to attend a great school and Swallow Hill is showing signs of becoming a great school in a different era, we hope this donation helps provide sporting and recreational opportunities for young people in Armley “

The collection raised £510 for All Together Armley’s youth activities fund.

The sessions have seen an average of 30 children a week enjoy getting together in a safe environment under the supervision of the local Neighbourhood Police Team and Basketball England.

A crowdfunding page has been launched to support the ongoing provision of youth activity in the area. Individuals and local businesses are being urged to support it.

On the crowdfunding page, All Together Armley says:

“It only costs £2.05 per child per week yet for some reason these kids are not going to be able to continue doing something they enjoy.

“What message does it send out to young people who want to stay off the streets and do the right thing, build relationships and learn about team work if the authority involved lets them down?

“We know it’s an expensive time of year and demands on your cash are massive but if you could just give a little until we find a sponsor it will keep the project going. £61.50 pays for another week.

“If you are an individual anything you can spare would be appreciated by the kids involved.”
