DESCRIPTION:Uncover the mysteries behind the tragic events of 1605 at Calverley Old Hall! \nOver the last few months a team of artists have been working with local people to creatively retell the story of the Walter Calverley murders. You are invited to see the result of these artistic interventions\, which delve into the background Walter’s family and examine the story with a modern eye. \n \nThe project began with a series of workshops that invited local groups to uncover the mysteries behind the tragic events of 1605. These “Whydunnit Workshops” welcomed over a hundred people to Calverley Old Hall and participants created artwork to sum up their thoughts. People were invited to uncover some of the motivations behind Walter Calverley’s behaviour. Some of these drawings and poems will be on show at this event.  \nAdmission is free\, and leaflets on the building’s history and children’s activity sheets will be available on site. Whilst booking is not essential\, we would ask that you register for the event via Eventbrite so that we can provide you with updates regarding the event. \n

DESCRIPTION:After nearly three years of renovation work thanks to £1.6m from the National Lottery\, the Old Hall. Woodhall Road\, is ready to re-open both as a holiday let for ten and community space. Before the paying guests start to arrive in the autumn\, The Landmark Trust is inviting locals to have a look around it all and take part in a number of activities to celebrate the completion of the works. These activities include: \n\nDrop in to the Community Space during the day to have a go at weaving. Many of the past residents of Calverley Old Hall made their living through textile work\, so visitors can have a go at making their own small woven craft to take away with you\nMusicians from Leeds Waits will be performing around the building\, playing traditional music on traditional instruments\nRe-enactors Frei Compagnie will set up their medieval camp\, where you can meet soldiers\, cooks and craftspeople and get a glimpse into medieval life at Calverley\n\nEntry to the open day is free\, but booking is essential via this link.

SUMMARY:Calverley: Calverley Old Hall Cultural Craft Exchange
DESCRIPTION:In advance of refugee week\, and in partnership with Migration Yorkshire\, we are pleased to welcome six talented craftspeople to Calverley Old Hall to demonstrate a range of traditional craft skills. The event will include crafts and crafters from Japan\, Hong Kong\, and even the UNESCO listed Intangible Heritage craft of Ukrainian Petrykivka painting.\nThe six demonstrators will each share their own craft\, with the opportunity to have a chat\, learn more about the crafts and get hands on to have a go yourself.\nThe event is free of charge\, and will also be a chance to learn a bit about Calverley Old Hall\, and the traditional craft skills we have been using on site as part of the current restoration project by the Landmark Trust.\n\n\n\n\nDrop in anytime after 11am – last admission will be 1.45pm\, and the event will close at 2pm. \nWhilst booking is not essential we would ask that you register for the event via Eventbrite so that we can provide you with updates regarding the event and manage capacities. Priority will be given to those who have pre-registered. \nPlease note: In exceptional circumstances you may be asked to wait a few moments if maximum building capacity is reached.
