Now the former TV Harrison ground in Wortley is set to play host to a game with a difference – and it’s all in a good cause.
Campaigners fighting to prevent the former ground being turned into housing are playing a charity match against Armley Christ Church FC to raise money for a local disabled youngster in need of an all-terrain special needs buggy.
Oliver Mcomish-Rooney has Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome which affects all areas of his life.
A £1,500 crowdfunder has been set up by his mum, Elizabeth, to raise enough money for a buggy which would allow him to take part in more family activities.
His family and friend are also planning a charity walk of Grassington National Park on the 28th March 2020.
The special match will be played at the TV Harrison Ground, off Oldfield Lane, on 8 March at 2pm. All welcome to attend.
The campaigners are opposing Leeds Schools Sports Association’s plans to sell the land to Leeds City Council, who want to build 50 homes on the site, which has been left abandoned for more than a decade.
They say the land was left in perpetuity to the children of Leeds by its original benefactor, TV Harrison, a former Christ Church headmaster.
