A Pudsey woman is looking for local businesses and schools to get their denim on for a day and as a community raise cash and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Faye Mitchell has for the past six years been caring for her mum, who has Alzheimer’s.

To raise money and awareness she is organising Pudsey does Denim for Dementia event, where people wear denim clothing in return for paying £1 to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Faye has so far got five schools and 40 businesses involved, as well as doctors’ surgeries, care homes and Pudsey Housing Office.

Faye said she has been overwhelmed by the response. She said:

“Dementia is set to be the UK’s biggest killer, and from first-hand experience it’s such a cruel disease.

“Imagine going to see your loved ones and they look at you like complete strangers. My children have never known their once bubbly, caring grandma. The stigma around dementia is that old people in their late 80s will get this, but this is so not true my mum was diagnosed at 64 and the youngest person ever to have Alzheimers is only 27.”

Pudsey Does Denim For Dementia runs on January 25, all you have to do is wear denim and contribute £1.
