Busy Swinnow Road will will NOT fully re-open to traffic this weekend after technical problems caused further delays to the work.
Councillor Richard Lewis (Lab, Pudsey) told the Dispatch that further problems have put the work – which began at the start of the summer holidays – behind schedule.
Work was due to finish today, but the road will now not be be fully open until Monday.
It will be closed from 7am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The free shuttle bus from Swinnow to Pudsey will continue to operate during the closure, but normal bus services will operate from 5pm onwards.
Cllr Lewis added:
“It’s deeply frustrating that the contractors had managed to get back on track after the early difficulties with shallow pipe work and soft ground, only to struggle at the end of the project.
“Again, I thank the residents of Swinnow for their understanding and patience over the past six weeks.”
