Staff and customers from West Leeds’ Aspire Community Benefit Society will be taking part in a charity bike ride to raise money to buy activity and sensory equipment for their Bramley day centre, writes Keely Bannister.
Mandy Bannister – a support worker at Aspire’s Bramley day centre – has asked for support for the riders, some of whom have learning disabilities:
“On 21st August myself, colleagues and some customers with learning disabilities will be taking part in an adapted bike challenge using a wheelchair bike and a duel bike from Bramley Day Service to Millennium Square to raise money for our centre.
“We want to raise money to buy activity and sensory equipment for our customers as it’s quite expensive.
“We would like as many spectators on route as possible to cheer us on and give support. It would be amazing to have encouragement and support on route, so if you can spare some time on, it would be much appreciated.”
The ride – which is taking place on Wednesday 21st August – will start from the Bramley day centre on Stanningley Road at 10:30am and then travel to Millennium Square in Leeds City Centre via:
- Down Stanningley Road to Armley Park, where a change of riders will take place
- Continuing down to Ledgard Way when a left will be taken onto Canal Road
- Turning right at the Shell Garage off Canal Road onto Kirkstall Road
- A further stop and change of drivers will happen at the ITV Studios on Kirkstall Road
- The ride will then continue to The Headrow
- A left turn will be made at Cookridge Street into Millennium Square

As well as the bike ride, a walk for people of all abilities is also being held around the Bramley Day Centre on Thursday 22nd August to aid the fundraising.
Aspire Community Benefit Society is a staff-owned, not-for-profit, social enterprise with charitable status who provide care and support services to adults with a learning disability.
