A new Facebook group is aiming to encourage people to shop local – and support small businesses in Farnley and Wortley.

The move comes days after local shoppers were encouraged to support local traders in Armley Town Street as part of the national Small Business Saturday event.

The Keep it Local – Farnley, Wortley, Gildersome & Drighlington group aims to promote and support, for free, local businesses.

It’s the idea of Angi Hughes, of New Farnley-based business Purity Hair and Beauty.

She said the idea of doing something to support all local businesses in the area came to her this weekend while she lay awake one night. She added:

“This group is for local businesses to advertise their services and local residents to find them! It will give local business owners somewhere to promote their services in a forum where the subscribers choose to see it, rather than on [the] lovely Memories of Farnley Facebook page.

“People can add themselves to the group and also share it too on their timeline – let’s all help to keep it local and support our local businesses.

“… Keep it local by searching this group or asking the members for recommendations, even invite your favorite local businesses to the group too.”

Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
