Monthly foodbank collections in Pudsey town centre have been proving increasingly popular – thanks to the generosity of Pudsey folk.

The collections have been held since 2018 by volunteers from Pudsey Labour Party and come after The Trussell Trust reported that more people than ever are turning to food banks as a result of welfare changes, such as the roll out of Universal Credit.

The collections have helped the Leeds North and West Foodbank, which distributes food to individuals and families in crisis.

Labour’s Local Election Candidate, Mark Sewards said:

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people who have donated to our food bank collections. Their continued goodwill and support demonstrates the wonderful sense of community spirit in Pudsey.

“It’s shameful that food banks need to exist in this day and age. We must all work towards a future where no one has to rely on a food bank to stop their family going hungry.”

Pudsey Labour Party’s next collection will take place at Pudsey Bus Station in Saturday 7 March from 10am until 12pm.

See the Leeds North and West Food Bank website for information about the items they need.
