Plans to convert a former retail showroom into a children’s play centre in Pudsey town centre are being recommended for approval – despite concerns over parking.
Applicant Jayne Hutton wants to to turn a former showroom opposite Pudsey Leisure Centre into a play centre with a main reception and foyer area, a new kitchenette and office, two party rooms and accessible toilets.
There will also be an open plan area with children’s soft play facilities, including slides and a small sports court. Access would be from Crawshaw Hill.
No objections from the general public have been received, but Cllr Josie Jarosz (Lab, Pudsey) has raised concerns over parking and highways safety.
Councillors sitting on Leeds council’s south and west plans panel will decide the application at a meeting in Leeds Civic Hall on Thursday.
But planning officers are recommending approval. In a report to be considered by councillors, which can be read here, planning officers offer no highways concerns. They say:
“Various parking restrictions are in place around the building, including double yellow lines and short stay time limit to the Robin Lane car park.”
The report concludes:
“The development is not considered to be harmful to the character and appearance of the area, nor would it have a harmful impact on highway safety and as a result, subject to appropriate conditions … the application is considered to be compliant with the relevant policies and guidance and approval is recommended.”
The plans are recommended for approval, subject to conditions surrounding the stonework of the building.
