The Leeds-Bradford Cycle Superhighway has an opening date.

CityConnect chiefs confirmed the date via a Facebook post earlier today. The £29 million scheme links Bradford though to East leeds and aims to encourage more people to take up cycling.

Residents have also been thanked for their patience while work was carried on the superhighway. The post reads:

The CS1 route, which starts just outside Leeds City Centre and reaches Bradford via Armley, Bramley, Stanningley and Thornbury, will be ready for people to start riding on 20th June.

There will be an official opening during that week, along with an exciting range of activities open to anyone, including Cycling Safaris, Bike Buses for kids and commuters, and a ‘Top Gear’ style challenge where different modes will compete to see who’s the fastest.

CS2, from Leeds to Seacroft will complete in late June – keep your eyes on Facebook, Twitter and the website for updates.

This means that parking restrictions will be coming into force the week before – cars parked on the superhighway will be receiving fines.

So, what are you waiting for? You’ve still got time to get that bike out the shed, pump up your tyres and breeze past the morning traffic on your way to work, to school or to the shops!

Check out the upcoming events on Facebook, on Twitter and on our website. Tweet pictures of yourself on the route ‪#‎PeopleOfCityConnect‬, tell your employer or school to get ‘Bike Friendly’.

Lastly, we want to thank the people of Bradford and Leeds for their patience while the CityConnect works have gone on.

We know the disruption has been tough at times, but the improvements are nearly complete, and with it, you’ll have a safe and direct segregated route into Leeds and Bradford.

See you on the Superhighway!

As reported last week, CityConnect bosses attempted to allay residents’ concerns in Stanningley regarding the new road layout there, but came under fire by concerned residents in the comments section of the article and on social media.

  1. After an article in March stated

“The official completion date of Leeds’ multi-million pound CityConnect cycle superhighway has been revealed as Friday, April 29”

Who the heck is in charge of communications to residents and businesses??? City Connect blame the Council, the Council blame City Connect whilst we are all left clueless! I’m sick of wondering which parts of the road will be blocked off!!!

  2. An utter waste of money. Turned a decent road into one long hazzard.
For the £29 million wasted here, i expect to see thousands of cyclists everyday. Further proof that local councils are just full of jumped-up miscreants.

  3. hope they are going to smooth it out think they got those cowboys who knock on your asking to tarmac your drive to do it
