Motorists have been warned that essential safety works will take place for several weeks on Newlay Lane, Horsforth.
The works, which start on Monday, 5 October 2026, involve the removal of several mature trees and the reconstruction of a retaining wall that has been declared unsafe. As a result:
- Newlay Lane will be fully closed for approximately one week while tree felling works are carried out.
- Following this, a single lane closure will remain in place for up to six weeks while the wall is rebuilt.
The works are taking place near the junction with New Road Side, Horsforth.
A Leeds City Council spokesperson said: “The property owners have been advised that extensive investigations were undertaken to find an alternative solution; however, due to the condition of the wall and the impact on nearby tree roots, both the tree removal and road closures are considered unavoidable.
“We appreciate that these works will cause disruption and ask motorists to allow extra time for journeys and follow any signed diversion routes.”
