Let the tech-tastic opportunities begin! The Lord Mayor of Leeds cut the ribbon on a shiny new IT hub at New Wortley Community Centre.
On Friday, 24 January New Wortley Community Centre were thrilled to host the Lord Mayor, Cllr Abigail Marshall-Katung, for the official opening of their new IT hub.
In collaboration with 100% Digital and Leeds City Council Employment and Skills, the event marked the official launch of the HOPE project – which stands for Help with Opportunities to Prepare for Employment.
HOPE aims to remove barriers that people, particularly those from diverse communities, face securing meaningful employment. Support is available in the IT hub with developing English, maths and digital skills as well as help with CV writing, job searching, applications and interview techniques.

The Lord Mayor also engaged with the women from the Conversation Cafe Group at New Wortley Community Centre.
This initiative aims to support local women to develop essential Maths and English skills, empowering them to pursue employment and volunteer opportunities they are truly passionate about.
The newly established IT hub will play a significant role in supporting this effort.

CEO Andrea Edwards of New Wortley Community Centre said: “It was an honour to welcome the Lord Mayor to the centre and the ladies who have been attending our Conversation Club project over the last few months were very excited to meet her and demonstrates some of the skills they have been acquiring.
“The HOPE IT hub is open to everyone in our community to engage with the team at the centre and with a member of the Leeds City Council Employment and Skills team for the support they need in moving closer to the job market.
“This designated support enables people to build a trusted relationship with us and seek support as many times as they need it.”
Leeds Lord Mayor Cllr Abigail Marshall-Katung said: “It was great to be at New Wortley Community Centre and to see how their partnership with 100% Digital Leeds, Leeds City Council Employment and Skills has led to them into creating their new HOPE IT hub and wrap-around employment support offer, which will be an amazing resource for the whole community.
“There were many talented people in the community who are ambitious to progress in their lives through good quality work, volunteering or building their skills. It was great to see the youth activity room and the food pantry all aimed at supporting the community. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I am very proud of Team Armley! Huge thanks to all the trustees and volunteers.”
