A former stable is set to be turned into a tea room off the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath.
Leeds planners have given approval to the new tea room, which will serve the local community of walkers, cyclists and boaters.
It will also cater for the new development on the former Yorkshire Chemicals Site, off Kirkstall Road, and the Otter Island development.
Applicant Derek Wilson said:
“There is nowhere to obtain refreshments between Rodley and Granary Wharf and the proposal would serve the community in a positive way.
“It is intended to serve tea/coffee/soft drinks, pre-packed cakes/pastries and ice cream for consumption on or off the premises, but not to offer meals.
“We are sensitive to the heritage of the building and would not wish to make any external alterations or have any external permanent signage.
“We believe the building to have considerable heritage merit and would aim to keep the original stone-set floor, bare
stone walls and exposed wooden beams.”
